Vaccinations required for Uganda

Vaccinations & Health Advice for Travelling to Uganda
Stay protected, stay prepared—here’s what you need to know before your trip.
Before travelling to Uganda, it’s important to make sure your vaccinations are up to date. Not only will this help protect your health, but some vaccines are required for entry.
✨ Always consult a travel health specialist at least 6–8 weeks before your departure.
Yellow Fever – Mandatory for Entry
Uganda requires proof of Yellow Fever vaccination for all travellers aged 9 months and above. You must carry a valid Yellow Fever certificate (International Certificate of Vaccination) when entering the country—it may be checked at the airport and border.
Recommended Travel Vaccinations
Health professionals commonly recommend the following for travel in Uganda:
- Tetanus, Diphtheria, Polio (often given as a combined booster)
- Hepatitis A & B
- Typhoid
- Cholera (depending on region and outbreak risk)
- Meningitis
- Tuberculosis (TB)
- Rabies – Especially if you’ll be spending time in remote areas or around animals
Malaria Risk & Prevention
There is a high risk of malaria in most parts of Uganda, including popular national parks.
To protect yourself:
• Take anti-malarial medication as advised by your doctor.
• Wear long-sleeved clothing in the evenings.
• Use insect repellent with DEET.
• Always sleep under a mosquito net (provided in most lodges we use).
