How to apply for a Uganda visa

Planning your trip to Uganda? You’ll need a valid visa before boarding. Fortunately, Uganda offers a convenient and fast e‑Visa system that most travellers use.
Who Needs a Visa
Unless you’re from one of the visa-exempt countries (like Kenya, Rwanda, or Singapore), you’ll need to apply online for a single or multiple-entry visa, depending on your travel plans.
What You’ll Need
To apply, prepare the following documents:
- Passport (must be valid for at least six months from entry date, with at least one blank page)
- Passport-style photo (recent)
- Yellow Fever vaccination certificate (required)
- Travel itinerary (flight details, accommodation booking)
- Invitation letter (for business, family visits, conferences)
- Optional: Police clearance, cover letter, proof of funds (may be requested)
Step-by-Step: How to Apply
- Visit the Uganda Electronic Visa/Permit portal
- Choose your visa type (single-entry tourist, business, transit, East African Tourist visa, etc.)
- Complete the online form with personal details, itinerary, and travel purpose
- Upload your passport bio-data photo, yellow fever certificate, and any other required documents
- Pay the applicable fee:
- Single-entry (tourism/business/family): USD 50
- Multiple-entry (6–12 months): USD 100
- East Africa Tourist visa (valid for Uganda, Kenya & Rwanda): USD 100
- Wait 2–3 working days for visa approval (start at least 5 business days before departure)
- Once approved, print your e‑Visa approval letter—this is required for boarding and entry
- Upon arrival, present your approval letter, passport, and health documents (yellow fever card) to immigration
- A visa sticker may be added to your passport; at Entebbe, biometric data (photo, fingerprints) is usually taken
On Visa Extensions & Penalties
- Tourist visas may be extended online or in person (up to two additional 60-day periods)
- Overstaying can incur fines (~USD 30/day) and possible detention until the fee is paid
East African Tourist Visa
If you’re touring Uganda, Kenya, and Rwanda, or flying in or out of Kigali airport, opt for the East Africa Tourist Visa (90-day, multiple-entry; must enter the issuing country first). Fee: USD 100
